Psychology

Hamilton Psychology aims to work collaboratively with children, young people, and their families, on a range of issues including:
-
Emotional challenges, such as sadness or worry
-
Repetitive or disruptive behaviours
-
Confidence in social interactions
-
Decision-making
-
Coping with changes in routine and uncertainty
-
Moving through loss and grief
-
Making healthy choices
-
Drug and alcohol use
Sessions typically involve creative and nature-based therapies. These approaches can be beneficial for children and young people who prefer a hands-on approach to learning, with less emphasis on 'talking' to begin with.

For younger people, Zoe will encourage parents or caregivers to be part of sessions, especially if your child is in Primary school or younger. This will help you and your child to feel comfortable and happy to come to sessions.
You are the most important person in your child’s life and so you will be instrumental in helping your child manage a range of emotional and psychological experiences, with compassion and confidence. You will be in the perfect position to make any necessary changes needed in their environment.
Zoe will want to equip you with all the understanding, support and strategies to help your child. So, she will make it a priority to include you in sessions as much as possible.
Note - Hamilton Psychology is committed to the stepped care model, an accepted healthcare practice that streamlines services for people according to their individual needs, preferences, and stages of recovery. People can be ‘stepped up’ to more intense interventions, or ‘stepped down’ to more generalised services.

Psychology
Psychology is suitable for people with complex mental health issues requiring longer-term and structured support, using evidence-based therapies. People can self-refer for psychology or be referred by their GP. Some people will have a Mental Health Care Plan as part of their involvement in psychology sessions and rebates are available under these plans.
